Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Micropigmentation?
Permanent Makeup is the art of implanting color into the skin with the right color and technique you can look better naturally. By implanting color into the dermis, the color is under a thin veil of skin and when the color heals it produces a soft natural look unlike traditional makeup placed on the skins surface. Cosmetic tattoos are a great way to look beautiful and save time wake up with makeup and swim/golf exercise without sweating your makeup off.
Reasons for Micropigmentation?
Convenience… saving time sensitive skin or makeup allergies you wear contacts or have had Lasik surgery or watery eyes that smudge your makeup. Arthritis or painful/shaky hands difficulty applying or not artistically applying your makeup. Aging changes in brows/lips or eyes. Active outdoor lifestyle Aloperia or other causes of hair loss
How long will it last?
Micropigmentation lasts a long time, but not forever, and it does fade. As you get used to your new makeup it is not uncommon to want more. You may want to freshen your makeup every few years. The darker the color the longer it will stay unchanged. Lighter more delicate colors are more vulnerable to effects of sun, swimming and breakdown by body’s natural response. SPF is necessary to your color lasting and not changing tones. Buy a 45 SPF lip balm and use daily on lips and brows.
How long will my appointment be?
Color, shade and definition are built up and designed during your appointment. By doing this a color can be accurately blended with a person’s undertones. With permanent makeup “less is more” is very true. It is easier to add more than be too aggressive in the beginning initially the procedure ranges from 1-2 hours follow up procedures (sometimes needed, sometimes not) do not take as long as initial procedure. Natural brows and natural permanent makeup will age will and always look nice fads will come and go.
What is recovery like?
Light swelling or redness is common directly after. You can begin normal routines right after with the exception of excess sweating, swimming, sun. The procedure will look surface healed after 4-7 days, however full healing takes up to around 20 days. After care is essential in how the makeup heals and must be followed precisely. Also health of the skin and body play a part in how one heals. Aftercare involves gentle cleanse twice a day and applying a light layer of aquaphor.
Do procedures hurt?
We use top of the line numbing agents developed specially for permanent make up. These creams and gels are applied to desired and before and during to keep you comfortable. Some describe it as a scratching or plucking feeling. On an average most clients have a pain range of 0-4 on a 1-10 scale. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different some may say 0 level of pain and others more.
Do I need to take precautions?
Lips- It is recommended to take Zovitraxor Valtrex 2 days prior to appointment. If this is not done you could experience a cold one and lose pigment.
Eye-Liner some choose to take Benadryl prior to appointment to help with swelling and reduce alcohol intake 2 days prior and blood thinners to minimize any bleeding. Taking Arnica Montena tablets before your lip or liner tattoo is also a huge help in healing and swelling.
What about sterilization and sanitation?
We can assure you that your health and safety are most important to us. We use only the most sanitary environment, sterile equipment and disposable needles here and are extensively trained and certified in blood borne pathogens, cross contamination and safety procedures. Please come to your appointment with clean faces and no not bring in food etc. from elsewhere.
Do I give gratuity?
Gratuities are appreciated but not expected. Most give similar gratuity as you would a stylist.
Brows
Do not tweeze wax or dye brows 2 days prior or at least 1 week after. Letting as much hair grow as possible will help allow us to shape your brows naturally after brows are healed wearing foundation near or over them will cause a concealed affect to the color so try to avoid this.
Lips
Please understand Fever blisters are a side effect of this procedure if you have ever had them in the past. This procedure will not cause you to get them if you have never had them. Again, Arnica Montana is an amazing boost to healing and swelling 5 tablets under the tongue 10 days prior and 10 days after.
Eyeliner
Minimal caffeine before your appointment to minimize eyelid fluttering. No contact lenses to procedure or 2 days after. Bring sunglasses as your eyes may be light sensitive. Do not perm or tint lashes 1 week before and 1 week after. If you have had eye surgery contact your doctor to see how long you should wait to proceed. Please let us know if you are using any eyelash growth serums (this may cause unnecessary bruising or bleeding) Please be aware eyeliner is not for everyone. Your eyes need to be very calm and relaxed and you need to put your trust in me to do my job. If I see that your eyes can not cooperate for me and allow me to tattoo I will stop the service and charge you just a $50 set up fee. Having your eyeliner tattooed is a mental challenge more than a physical. It numbs up great however if you scrunch or squeeze your eyes you are going to have unwanted discomfort and a harder healing time.
